Howard grew up in the South Bay area of Southern California. While attending UC Santa Barbara, Howard started sailing regularly with the college’s sailing club and later in grad school in Boston, sailed and raced dinghies on the Charles River and cruising off of Cape Cod. Returning home to California, he actively raced on the challenging waters of San Francisco Bay, crewing and skippering in Folkboats, IOR tonners and various other cool yachts. As a crew member he regularly sailed on the California to Mexico circuit, with one of the highlights being spending a year as a racing and delivery crew aboard both Roy Disney’s S&S 52, Shamrock, and the famous S&S 61, Sorcery. When on shore, Howard works at Zend Technologies, managing the sales effort for a number of European markets. His dream of a family sailing crew rests with a few of the grandchildren who seem to have taken to sailing on his current boat, a Beneteau First 21.7.
Rya is originally from Toronto Canada. Born in Moldova, Russia and having very disciplined Russian parents, it was only natural that she was put into gymnastics before she could even walk. After being a competitive gymnast for more than 10 years, Rya developed a magnetic love towards all sports (especially basketball) and grew up watching and playing as many sports as she could. After graduating University in Communications and Media Studies, Rya had an amazing opportunity in New York City, where she worked in sport television production for 2 years. After pursuing her desire for travel and exploration, she came to stumble upon and fall in love with writing, making it her current career. Sports are in Rya’s my blood. The energy, excitement and tremendous talented athletes are entertaining to watch, but even more fun to write about.
